Kraft Foods is to axe jobs at a Jell-O puddings plant in the US.

The company said yesterday (25 October) that 40 to 50 jobs will be cut from the site in Mason City in Iowa.

Kraft refused to be drawn on the specific reasons for the job losses but a spokesperson said the company sometimes had to “adjust employment” at its sites.

“From time to time we have to adjust employment at our manufacturing plants based on any number of factors that may include external conditions, seasonality and efficiencies,” the spokesperson said. “As a result, unfortunately, we have announced a reduction at our Mason City, Iowa, plant of between 40 and 50 people.  The plant makes ready-to-eat puddings and gelatins.”

She added: “This was a difficult decision and is not a reflection on our employees’ performance. They have all worked hard and have done a terrific job.”

The plant employs around 270 staff and makes Jell-O puddings and gelatins.
