A Kraft Foods worker has died after an explosion at a cereal plant in Michigan.

According to press reports the explosion, at a Post cereal plant, sent debris through a cinder block wall, severing the leg of a worker, who died. The man was in his early 30s. A woman was also hit by the debris but is expected to make a full recovery.

The local fire chief told Associated Press that the explosion was in a puffer machine, which adds air to cereal.

A Kraft spokeswoman, Cathy Pernu, was quoted saying the killed worker had been with the company 11 years.

“Our hearts go out to his family,” Pernu said. “This is a terrible tragedy for our plant.”
