US grocer Kroger has appointed Michael Donnelly as senior vice president of merchandising.
The retailer said yesterday (20 June) that Donnelly will take over the position held by Don Becker, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.
Kroger said Donnelly will lead all merchandising and procurement for the retailer. Donnelly has been president of its Ralphs grocery division since August 2007, and has held a number of leadership positions within the company. He began his career in 1978 with Kroger’s Fry’s banner.
“We are very pleased to have Mike join our team as our senior vice president of merchandising. He is well respected within our company and the industry for his merchandising excellence,” said Kroger president and chief operating officer Rodney McMullen. “Mike’s extensive industry experience will help Kroger continue to build and strengthen our partnerships with suppliers and vendors that are so important to Kroger’s success.”
Donnelly will also join the board of dunnhumbyUSA and will remain a member of the Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council.
