US dairy group Lifeway Foods saw its sales growth accelerate in the second quarter of the year.
The company said yesterday (11 July) that its gross sales were up 29% to US$20m in the three months to 30 June. In the first quarter of 2011, Lifeway’s sales rose 19% to $19m.
Lifeway said its “record” second-quarter sales were due to “growing awareness of the benefits” of kefir, the company’s cultured dairy product, and the children’s line ProBugs Organic Kefir for kids. The firm also pointed to the “successful introduction” of new product lines like Bio Kefir and Frozen Kefir.
“We have dramatically increased customer awareness of kefir and we are excited about our future growth opportunities,” said CEO Julie Smolyansky. “We continue to expect 2011 to be a year of record sales and profitability.”
Lifeway said it would issue its full second-quarter results in the third week of August.
