A kosher meat processor in the US state of Iowa has been accused of using under-age workers.

Agriprocessors faces claims that it broke state laws on child labour, including regulations covering failure to obtain work permits, exposure to hazardous chemicals and working youths for longer than permitted.

An investigation by the Iowa Labor Commissioner’s Office claims to have uncovered 57 cases and part of the probe remains ongoing.

Dave Neil, Iowa Labor Commissioner, has asked the state’s attorney general, to prosecute the company.

Neil said: “The investigation brings to light egregious violations of virtually every aspect of Iowa’s child labour laws.”
