US regional retailer Meijer has launched an online grocery service called MeijerDoorstepGrocer.com.

The company announced today (31 January) that the move is its first effort to sell non-bulk groceries online and is its first foray into international online sales.

“This is a very important step for our e-commerce operations,” said Rick Keys, executive vice president of supply chain operations and e-commerce for Meijer. “While we have provided bulk grocery and multi-pack products in the past, Meijer is now able to serve a broader audience with a greater number of selections. This new site will have something for everyone, including international customers.”

The site will offer around 5,000 SKUs including non-perishables and Meijer brand grocery and beverage products, as well as baby supplies, pet food, cleaning supplies, laundry products and health food, along with everyday health and beauty items.

Shipping costs start at US$7.95 an order and is calculated based on the value of the order.
