Pierre Foods has announced the closure of its Cedartown, Georgia plant and the transition of its beef processing to other sites with immediate effect.

The US processed food manufacturer said the closure will affect around 153 employees.

A spokesperson for Pierre Foods said: “While this was a difficult but necessary decision for the company to make, the shift of production to other facilities combined with the SKU rationalization initiative should improve the company’s competitive position.”

Transfers to other company locations will be offered to some employees and assistance in finding future employment for others.

Pierre is a manufacturer and distributor of brands including Zartic, Z-Bird, Circle, Clovervale Farms and Chef’s Pantry.
