US poultry group Pilgrim’s Pride is to cut 200 jobs as part of the process to integrate the business into new parent JBS, the Brazil-based meat giant.

Some 213 staff will be affected by the closure of Pilgrim’s Pride’s corporate HQ in Texas and of another office in Georgia.

“While we will continue to maintain a very large presence in East Texas through our production operations in Mt. Pleasant and a smaller administrative office in Pittsburg, most corporate functions will be relocated to JBS USA’s headquarters by June,” said Pilgrim’s Pride president and CEO Don Jackson. “This consolidation is critical to our ability to realize the full benefits of our integration into JBS.”

Last September, JBS moved to buy a majority stake in the then bankrupt Pilgrim’s Pride for US$800m.
