US retailer Price Chopper has struck a deal to buy six P&C stores from Tops Friendly Markets.

Five of the six outlets are located in New York State while the sixth is located in Lincoln, New Hampshire.

“We look forward to serving the residents of the North Country of New York and in Lincoln, NH with our signature offers,” said Price Chopper’s president, chairman and CEO Neil Golub.

“We expect to take possession of the facilities in early April, following the liquidation of inventory and the closing of the stores. We have placed a special priority on preparing these stores for re-opening as soon as possible,” he added.

When contacted by just-food, a spokesperson for the group declined to comment on the financial details of the transaction or provide a specific timetable for store conversion.

The deal will expand Price Chopper’s store network to 125 outlets.

In addition to growing by acquisition, Price Chopper emphasised that it continues to grow organically with three new stores that are scheduled to open over the next 12 months.

“We are very focused on driving growth and bringing our unique offer to more consumers,” the spokesperson said.
