The president of the owner of US supermarket chain Price Chopper’s is to become the retailer’s CEO.

Jerel Golub, who is president and chief operating officer of the Golub Corporation, owner of 128-store chain, will assume the role in the new year. He replaces Neil Golub, who will serve as the executive chairman of the board.

The company said Jerel Golub has held positions of leadership in merchandising, marketing and finance throughout his 30 years with Price Chopper.

He said: “It’s gratifying to realise the value of succession planning at all levels of our organisation. In addition to mentoring young talent, succession provides for the continuity of values and collaborative leadership style that are so critical to success.”

Price Chopper also appointed Scott Grimmett as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The company operates grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
