US retail giant Safeway has struck a deal with unions in Northern California representing around 25,000 workers.
The company’s four-year contract with four UFCW unions has put off votes on strike action scheduled for yesterday and today (3 December).
“We achieved our goals reaching an agreement that benefits the specific needs of our members working in Safeway stores,” the unions said.
“This model contract sets the standard for workers in the supermarket industry.”
