Safeway, one of the America’s largest grocery chains by sales, has purchased the remaining 43.8% of GroceryWorks that it did not already own, making the online grocery shopping and home delivery provider a 100% subsidiary.

GroceryWorks is the retailer’s online service provider, operating Safeway.com in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, California, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, Phoenix, Arizona and the Washington DC markets. GroceryWorks also operates VONS.com throughout Southern California and Las Vegas.
With annual sales if US$38.4bn Safeway operates 1,770 stores in the US and Canada. By taking full control of GroceryWorks, the company is demonstrating its commitment to the fast-growth segment of Internet shopping.
