Sanderson Farms, Inc. has announced that sites in Waco and McLennan County, Texas have been selected for the construction of its new poultry processing plant and wastewater treatment facility and hatchery.
The Missouri-based poultry specialist is to invest some US$70m in the new facilities which will comprise a state-of-the-art poultry complex with the capacity to process 1.2m birds per week for the big bird deboning market. When at full capacity, the new facility will employ around 1,300 people, processing some 8.4m pounds of dressed poultry meat per week.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring with initial operation of the new complex scheduled to begin in May of 2007.
“We are grateful for the cooperation we received from the economic development and governmental officials in the City of Waco, McLennan County and the State of Texas,” said Sanderson’s chairman and CEO, Joe F. Sanderson, Jr. “We believe this expansion will enhance our ability to drive revenues and earnings, and allow us to continue our record of building value for our shareholders.”
