US meat giant Sanderson Farms is looking to build a poultry complex in North Carolina.
The company has lined up a project worth US$94m for a big bird deboning complex near Goldsboro in North Carolina.
If completed, the complex will include a processing plant with the capacity to process 1.25m chickens a week.
The complex, when operating at full capacity, is expected to employ around 1,100 people.
The project also includes plans to expand the feed mill at Sanderson’s existing plant in Kinston, North Carolina.

By GlobalDataSanderson, which yesterday (30 March) also announced a share offering to pay for the expansion, said the Goldsboro and the expanded Kinston sites would boost its processing capacity by 30%.
“In today’s market environment, we believe we have a significant opportunity to leverage our efficient operations with the additional capacity of 1.25m birds per week and take advantage of new markets,” said chairman and CEO Joe Sanderson, Jr.
