US consumer goods group Sara Lee has announced that its board has elected Cynthia B. Carroll as a director of the company, with effect from 1 August 2006.
Carroll is president and chief executive officer of Montreal-based Alcan Primary Metal Group, a division of Alcan, where she is responsible for Alcan’s aluminum smelting facilities and power generation installations. Her appointment brings the number of directors at Sara Lee Corporation to 13.
“Cynthia is a proven leader, bringing extensive global experience and a track record for success to Sara Lee,” said Brenda C. Barnes, Sara Lee’s chairman and CEO. “She’s lived and worked in countries throughout the world, including those geographies in which we are already operating, as well as other regions where we have strong growth opportunities. As Sara Lee becomes a more focused, integrated operating company, Cynthia’s strengths will be a significant asset to our board of directors.”
Before joining Alcan in 1989, Carroll worked at Amoco for eight years as a petroleum geologist.
