Sara Lee Corp. has extended its bread portfolio in the US with the launch of a product made with honey.
The US food giant launched Sara Lee Soft & Smooth Honey over the Christmas period and said the bread’s flavour had already scored highly with consumers.
“This new bread’s unique honey flavour ranked very high in taste tests with teenagers, who can be the pickiest of bread eaters,” said Tim Zimmer, vice president of Sara Lee’s US bakery business.
The launch comes after Sara Lee warned before Christmas that it would again up its bread prices in North America amid rising wheat costs.
The company increased its bread prices by 5% in September and is in the process of another price hike across its bakery portfolio.
