US food distributor United Natural Foods has appointed Robert Sigel as president of specialty distribution, a newly-created position.

Sigel was formerly president and CEO of Millbrook Distribution Services, which was acquired by United Natural last month. He will continue to serve as president of Millbrook, the company stated.
United Natural has also named Carl Koch as vice president, human resources. Koch joined United Natural in 2001 and most recently served as the company’s vice president of risk and compliance.
United Natural Foods CEO Michael Funk said: “We continue to position the company for sustainable growth and we see the wealth of operating experience and management skills of both Robert and Carl as integral components to the senior management team we are building at United Natural Foods.”
United Natural also announced the re-election of three independent directors, Gordon Barker, Gail Graham and Thomas Simone, who will all serve as Class II directors until the 2010 AGM.
