Dutch food retailer Ahold has named Bhavdeep Singh to executive vice president of its US operations.

Singh will switch to the newly-created position on Monday from his current role as executive vice president for human resources.

He will lead Ahold’s Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant Carlisle and Giant Landover divisions and look to identify ways to “drive sales and profit and leverage best practices”, the company said. He will report to Ahold USA COO Carl Schlicker.

“I am confident that Bhavdeep’s exceptional leadership qualities and operations experience will serve the business well in his new assignment,” Schlicker said.

Prior to joining Ahold last January, Singh served as CEO for Indian healthcare company Fortis Healthcare.

His career also includes a stint as CEO of Reliance Fresh, the convenience-style grocery chain run by Indian retailer RelianceRetail.

Singh has also held several positions at US retailer A&P, Ahold said.
