Tesco has announced the date for the long-awaited opening of its first Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores in the US.
The first six grocery stores are to open in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties on 8 November.
The UK-based retail giant said the openings will mark “a major milestone” for the company, adding that it had spent years researching and planning the Fresh & Easy format.
“After great anticipation, we are thrilled to open our doors to neighbourhoods in Southern California and offer them fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices,” said Tim Mason, Fresh & Easy’s CEO. “We are also excited to demonstrate our strong commitment to being a good neighbour and a great place to work.”
At around 10,000 square feet, the new stores will be smaller than typical supermarkets, which Tesco said would give customers “a faster, easier shopping experience”. In addition to offering a range of Fresh & Easy private-label and national brand name products, the stores will carry a selection of fresh, prepared meals. Each store will employ approximately 20 to 30 people.
