According to reports in the local press, Tesco plan’s to launch an aggressive campaign in the Phoenix metropolitan area. However, the UK’s number one supermarket operator refused to give anything away on its plans for entry into the American market.
A report in the Business Journal of Phoenix has suggested that Tesco intends to build or renovate 50 stores by next autumn, citing Phoenix city officials.
Tesco has said that it intends to launch its offensive on the West Coast of America, and it has been widely reported that the company intends to target Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Phoenix in its early store openings.
The company has maintained a stony silence on the subject, insisting that it wants US consumers to be the first to see its new format. “We want our customers to see it before the competition does,” a spokesperson told just-food.
