Fresh & Easy opened its 62nd store in Manhattan Beach, California, today (3 July) as Tesco resumed the roll-out of its US chain after a three-month hiatus.
CEO Tim Mason was joined by Manhattan Beach mayor Richard Montgomery and El Segundo mayor Kelly McDowell to officially open the store, which is less than a mile away from Fresh & Easy’s home office.
Tesco made a decision to halt plans for the opening further Fresh & Easy stores back in March when a spokesperson for the retail giant said the company wanted to “take a step back and review the process”.
The company has since announced it plans to hire 750 employees over the next three months, as it continues to open additional stores in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. Next Wednesday, Fresh & Easy will open its 63rd store in North Las Vegas.
“We are proud of all we’ve accomplished in a very short amount of time,” said Mason. “So far, we have hired over 2,100 people and plan to hire hundreds more in the coming months, particularly good news in this economy.”
