United Natural Foods has booked a dip in first-quarter income, which fell to US$13.2m from $13.6m the prior year.
UNFI Specialty, formerly Millbrook Distribution Services, which the company acquired in the second quarter of fiscal 2008, negatively impacted first-quarter operating income by approximately $1.6m, United Natural said.
The US distribution group said net sales increased 17.4% to $864.2m. Stripping out acquisitions, sales rose 10%, in the three months to 1 November.
“We’re quite pleased with our performance in the first quarter, which included delivering comparable sales growth of over 10% in spite of these difficult and uncertain economic conditions” said president and CEO Steven Spinner.
