Texas retailer United Supermarkets of Lubbock is to join the Illinois-based buying group Topco Associates.

United Supermarkets is a family-owned company, operating in north and west Texas, with annual sales of approximately US$1.1bn. It operates 46 stores under three formats, United Supermarkets, the whole health and gourmet retailer Market Street, and the international format Super Mercado.

Topco’s member-owners have collective sales volumes in excess of $110bn, while the group itself has a turnover of $7.3bn.
