Wal-Mart Stores yesterday (8 May) revealed that its Supercenter and Neighbourhood Market delis have completed the moved to trans fat free oil for all on-site frying.

Wal-Mart deli’s offer a variety of fried foods, including chicken, country steak and apple.

With the widely publicised link between the consumption of trans fats and heart disease, one of the leading causes of death in the US, Wal-Mart said that the change could make a difference to the health of the nation.

“Small changes can have a big effect for many people,” said Peter Redmond,  vice president of Wal-Mart’s deli division. “Our customers will be able to enjoy the same great tasting deli selections but have the additional benefit of knowing that those items prepared in our deli are done so in trans fatty acid free oil.”
