Wal-Mart today (7 January) named the head of its wholesale division Sam’s Club as the man to take charge of its international operations.

Doug McMillon, 42, will move from his role as president and CEO of Sam’s Club to become president and CEO of Wal-Mart International on 1 February.
McMillon (pictured) will replace Mike Duke, who is set to take the top job at Wal-Mart next month when he succeeds Lee Scott as president and CEO of the world’s largest retailer.
“Doug is joining Wal-Mart International at a time of strength and momentum,” Duke said. “We have a strategy to win in all markets, and our international team is exceptionally strong across the board.
Wal-Mart said a new boss of Sam’s Club would be named “at a later date”.
The retailer’s international business, which spans 14 markets outside the US, generates around 25% of the company’s revenue.
Last month, in its latest move to expand its overseas operations, Wal-Mart launched a tender offer to acquire a controlling stake in Chilean retailer Distribución y Servicio D&S.
