John Menzer, the Wal-Mart executive behind the acquisition of UK arm Asda in 1995, is to leave the US retail giant.
Menzer will step down from his role as vice chairman in March, Wal-Mart announced late on Friday (18 January).
Menzer began his career at Wal-Mart in 1995 and eventually had responsibility, as CEO of Wal-Mart International, for the company’s operations in 15 countries.
“John has had a tremendously successful career at Wal-Mart and I have seen first-hand the difference he has made,” said Lee Scott, president and CEO of Wal-Mart.
