US supermarket group Weis Markets has launched a price promotion that will cut and freeze the price of various food items.
The retailer has lowered the price of 2,400 staple items, effective tomorrow (16 April) and implemented a 90-day price freeze on 3,000 items.
As the second price freeze programme since the beginning of the year, products include private-label and brand-name products in centre store, frozen, dairy, produce, meat, deli and bakery.
“At a time when unemployment continues to surge in many of our markets – in some areas to as high as 10% – our price freeze programme is designed to offer meaningful, long-term savings to our customers,” said David Hepfinger, Weis Markets’ president and CEO.
“We estimate our initial price freeze programme helped our customers save approximately US$5m and hope to save our customers even more in the coming months.”
Print, television and radio advertising as well as in-store “price freeze” shelf tags will support the promotion.
