The Wm Wrigley Jr Company has appointed Martin Schlatter to the newly created role of vice president and chief marketing officer. Schlatter will be responsible for Wrigley’s global marketing function, developing worldwide marketing strategy and identifying new avenues to reach new consumers.

Schlatter has been promoted from general manager for Wrigley’s US business since 2004, during which time Wrigley achieved a 63% volume share of the US gum market, a record high for the company. Schatter joined Wrigley in 2002 and has held various senior management positions within the company. Previously he was in leadership positions at Lindt Chocolates in Switzerland and at Procter & Gamble in Germany and the UK.

“Martin has proven himself to be not only a strong leader, but also a bold and strategic thinker who recognises both the power of our brands and the importance of breaking new ground,” said CEO Bill Wrigley. “I am confident that Martin’s expertise and excellent collaborative skills will help further develop Wrigley’s strong marketing team and enhance the company’s winning position in the global marketplace by continuing to build our brands around the world.”
