Consumers Now Can ‘Get Their Soy’ Without Changing How They EatOrdering a veggie burger is no longer the only way to get soy when eating out. Restaurants now can offer an entire line of pasta entrees created with Martha Gooch® Soy Enriched Pasta, which will be introduced to the food service industry at the National Restaurant Association Show, May 20-23, at McCormick Place in Chicago. With the new product line, restaurant customers will be able to “get their soy” without changing the way they eat.
Martha Gooch Soy Enriched Pasta has been fortified with NutriSoy(TM) — a specially produced, all-natural soy ingredient made by Archer Daniels Midland. NutriSoy is added to the normal pasta making process; no changes are made in the process or to the pasta’s taste. Martha Gooch Enriched Pasta contains 6.25 grams of soy protein per finished serving, which qualifies it to include the recently approved FDA health claim regarding soy on its packaging.
The claim, which was approved by the FDA in October 1999, states that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein per day may reduce the risk of heart disease, which is the number one killer of Americans. For a food to qualify for the health claim, each serving must contain at least 6.25 grams of soy protein, which is one-fourth of the 25-gram amount shown to have cholesterol-lowering effect.
With Martha Gooch Soy Enriched Pasta, not only do customers get the health benefits of soy; they also get the great Martha Gooch pasta taste. Soy Enriched Pasta cooks up and tastes just like all of Martha Gooch’s other high quality pastas. In a taste panel, 100 percent of the consumers rated the taste of the Soy Enriched Pasta “above average.”
Besides the significant health benefits and great taste Martha Gooch Soy Enriched Pasta touts, it also leverages soy’s tremendous recent popularity. As a star in the headlines, soy and its benefits have filled the pages of countless publications, including the Wall Street Journal and Time. Soy was featured on “Good Morning America,” it appeared in Shape as one of the “Big 6” food trends and it was named a “hot” food menu item by Foodservice Director. Customers are looking for ways to include soy in their diets, including when they dine out. Now, restaurants that cater to them can satisfy that demand.
Martha Gooch Soy Enriched Pasta is available in 7 different shapes and styles. It is currently available to restaurants and will be available in grocery stores later in the year. For more information or to purchase the product, contact Mark Merryfield at 816-234-0312 or 1-800-228-4060.
