US supermarket chain Giant Food, a unit of Dutch retail giant Ahold, has announced that it is to enter a partnership with fair trade certifier TransFair USA to offer five varieties of Fair Trade Certified coffee in its Giant and Super G stores.

The Fair Trade Certified organic coffee is to be marketed under the brand name Cafe JaVaNa gourmet coffee and is available in five blends – Breakfast Blend, French Roast, Colombian, Sumatran, and Sumatran Decaf.

Fair trade products guarantee farmers are paid a fair price. Almost 85% of Fair Trade Certified coffee sold in the US is also certified organic.

Giant Food operates 199 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia. Giant stores in New Jersey and Delaware operate under the Super G name.
