A court has ordered US grocery chain Albertsons to may US$1.85m for overcharging for products in its California stores.

The fine covers penalties, costs and improvements at stores to ensure accurate pricing in the future, the San Diego District Attorney’s office said.
The case was brought after a 16-month investigation into pricing at Albertsons stores in California. Inspectors found 780 items to be incorrectly priced, resulting in price differences of more than $700.
Albertsons must now hire a scan coordinator who will be responsible for making sure advertised prices are the same as prices charged at the checkout.
The retailer said most of the citations happened shortly after its acquisition of Lucky Stores in 1998 and that the issues raised by the case had been resolved, reported AP Online.
