Allrecipes.com®, the leading online meal planning resource, has added new and improved features designed to make meal planning and grocery shopping easier for the home cook including nutritional analysis, true recipe scaling and automated shopping lists.

These services have been added as a direct result of enthusiastic requests made by the site’s growing community base, which averages more than one million unique visitors each month.

The new, exciting enhancements round out the complete package of meal planning services available at no cost to the user on Allrecipes.com. The first, most popular service, MyRecipe Box, was added in February of this year. MyRecipe Box is a free, private, personalized tool that lets users store, organize, rank, review and share their favorite recipes on Allrecipes.com’s Web site. This number one requested service already has more than 200,000 subscribers. Highlights of the new services now available on Allrecipes.com include:

  • Detailed Nutritional Analysis — Allrecipes.com’s nutritional analysis provides users with a complete summary of a recipe’s caloric, fat, sodium, protein, cholesterol, carbohydrate and fiber intake, plus detailed information for 19 different nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Nutritional analysis is available on more than 75 percent of the sites’ tens of thousands of recipes and the percentage is growing as more unique recipe ingredients (i.e. mango chutney) are added to the comprehensive nutritional database.
  • True Recipe Scaling — Whether it’s dinner for one or a birthday party for 20, Allrecipes.com’s new scaling feature enables users to alter the number of servings for a recipe based on the number of people being served. Users can simply enter the number of servings desired, and the ingredient amounts will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Automated Shopping Lists — This feature has been enhanced to automatically generate a combined “intelligent” shopping list based on the meals and recipes selected. For example, if a user selects three recipes that each ask for two tablespoons of butter, the shopping list will automatically display a single listing of six tablespoons of butter. Food items are listed in both weight and unit measurements to ensure convenience for all users. The shopping list can be added to and/or deleted from, based on what additional items are needed during any given grocery shopping trip. In addition, the list can be edited to increase/decrease quantities of any given item or include non-food items like diapers and pet products. Shopping list items are grouped by aisle or store location for convenience and to help consumers take advantage of grocer coupons or promotions.

“Having searched on the Internet for recipes during the past six years, I have never come across a website so well designed. From international recipes to searching for recipes by key word to nutritional analysis, no other website can compare,” said Jolyne Babineau, one of Allrecipes.com’s loyal users. “I find that your nutritional analysis, whether it’s for specific foods or recipes, is a very important aspect to consider. It takes a lot of knowledge to evaluate a recipe just by looking at the ingredients. Therefore, having the number of calories, fat grams, etc. can help a large number of people lean towards a healthier lifestyle.”
