US regional supermarket chain Kohl’s Food Stores is to close its 23 remaining supermarkets in August, with the loss of around 1,500 jobs.

Kohl’s, which is owned by Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co, once operated more than 60 stores in Wisconsin but has been losing market share over the last few years, reported the Associated Press.

A&P announced in February that its had sold seven Kohl’s stores to Copps Corp and that it was considering the sale of its remaining Milwaukee area stores in order to cut debt and reduce operating expenses.
