US grocery retailer the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) has announced that it is to transform ten of the 13 Farmer Jack Food Markets slated to close in mid-February into deep discount Food Basics stores by early April.

The ten stores in southeast Michigan will be renovated to fit the Food Basics format, the company said, adding that the new format stores would have approximately the same retail space as they had when operated as Farmer Jack Food Markets.
The Food Basics concept provides a discount of up to 30% on grocery items that shoppers buy most.
