Atkins Nutritionals, the company behind the popular low-carbohydrate Atkins diet, is to offer dieters software that will enable them to track the carbohydrate content of foods and monitor their own daily intake of carbohydrates on mobile phones and palmtop computers.
Atkins said the software would be available early next year but did not say how much the service would cost, reported Reuters.
“Our aim is to make the information about how to do Atkins available to as many people as possible,” Michael Bernstein, senior vice president of Atkins Nutritionals, was quoted as saying.
The new Atkins2Go service will allow instant access for consumers to information on the carb content of certain foods, daily carb intake and personal weight loss information.
The news follows the launch of “Weight Watchers On the Go”, a new palmtop service from Weight Watchers International that dieters can use together with the company website, Reuters reported.
