The North Dakota-based North American Bison Cooperative (NABC) has acquired Denver-based New West Foods is a bid to boost sales of meat.

NABC’s CEO Dennis Sexhus said that the deal has been in the pipeline for about four months, and that New West Foods has a history in focusing on marketing bison products in retail grocery stores that will complement the NABC’s focus on restaurant and food service sales.

Will McFarlane, CEO of New West Foods, told the Associated Press that the deal should benefit the entire industry: “I believe that consolidation of marketing organisations is the right course in this small but growing industry.”

Terms of the deal for the privately owned New West Foods, formerly the Denver Buffalo Co., were not disclosed.
