Miami-based fastfood giant Burger King (BK) has made the first ever brand extension to its flagship Whopper sandwich in the burger’s 45-year history, and published a “fowl” joke yesterday [Monday] to inform consumers.

BK admitted yesterday afternoon that it is not really changing its name to “Chicken King Corporation”, and that the revelation it had in a full-page ad in USA Today was merely an April Fool’s joke to advertise its new Chicken WhopperTM and Chicken Whopper Jr.TM sandwiches.

“While Burger King Corporation is keeping its original name, the CHICKEN WHOPPERTM is real and it’s here to stay,” said Christopher E. Clouser, executive VP and chief global marketing officer.

“To all those who had a beef with our chicken joke, we’re sorry for the foul. We hope no one got their feathers ruffled,” Clouser added.
