Gregory Page has been elected president and chief operating officer of Cargill, the company’s Board of Directors announced today.
Page, 48, takes over the president’s role June 1 from Warren Staley, who was elected president in 1998. Staley, 57, will continue as chief executive officer, where he has served since June 1999. Ernest Micek, 64, will continue as chairman of the board until his retirement Aug. 8, 2000.
A 26-year veteran of the company, Page has been active in Cargill’s meat processing, animal nutrition and financial businesses. He was elected executive vice president in November 1999 and serves on the corporate leadership team, which sets long-term corporate direction and strategy.
“Greg has served Cargill successfully in a number of vital roles and brings a North Dakota son’s common sense as well as global experience and perspective to the president’s job,” Staley said. “In his work with our meat processing businesses, Greg has embodied the innovative, customer-focused, value-added approach that we are now emphasizing throughout the company.”
“Cargill has given me a world of experience and now a wonderful opportunity to work with Warren and my other colleagues to reach our goal of becoming the premier customer solutions company,” Page said. “And while I welcome the challenge of serving as Cargill’s president during these fast-changing times, I know that it is my 82,000 coworkers whose brains, heart and hard work are making good things happen for our customers and our communities.”
A native of Bottineau, N.D., where his father operated a John Deere dealership for many years, Page is chairman of the American Meat Institute. In his career with Cargill, he has held positions in Kansas City, Kan., Fort Worth, Texas, Stockton, Calif., Singapore and Thailand.
