Crane Co. (NYSE: CR) — Crane National Vendors, a Crane Co. company and a leading manufacturer and worldwide distributor of automatic merchandisers, announced it has received a significant order through its distributor AVS, for snack machines from Smith’s Snackfood Company in Australia.

Smith’s Snackfood Company, Australia’s leading manufacturer and distributor of quality snack foods, has been providing Australians with their favorite snacks for over 60 years. Smith’s is wholly owned by PepsiCo International and part of the Frito-Lay global organization.

Mr. Richard Ings, Smith’s General Manager, Vending, stated, “We have decided to make the investment in Crane National Vendors’ machines to update our fleet and ensure that we continue to provide our customers with the most modern equipment available. When we evaluated the equipment available to us, Crane National Vendors clearly offered the most reliable, proven machines we could purchase. The technology that Crane National Vendors has designed into their products will allow us to automate our operations as we look to the future.”

In addition to the significant order quantity, this represents one of the first large overseas orders for the newly introduced Crane National Vendors’ Outdoor-ATV Machine. “It is our understanding that we competed against some of the major European and North American manufacturers, and that our technology, responsiveness, and quality carried the day. We are very honored to have this opportunity to do business with Smith’s and to have our machines providing service in the Australian market. We feel the Smith’s decision to invest in our Outdoor Snack Center-ATV demonstrates that National Vendors has brought a very innovative product to the marketplace that is rapidly being accepted by industry leaders worldwide,” stated Jack Osborn, President, Crane National Vendors.

The first in the industry, the revolutionary Outdoor Snack Machine is the only clear glass front snack machine that is UL and cUL approved for outdoor use, engineered to keep products fresh in peak temperature extremes of -20 degrees Fahrenheit to 120 degrees Fahrenheit; provides built-in security features and has a rugged cabinet design including an advanced sealing system. The Outdoor Snack Machine can be placed in environments where no other snack machine can survive and is an important addition to National Vendors’ worldwide product line. All machines will be built in the National Vendors’ Bridgeton, Missouri manufacturing facility.

Features such as the new vend bucket door system, self diagnostics, price rolls, dual spirals, and interchangeable trays only available with Crane National Vendors equipment all played a roll in convincing Smith’s of the labor savings and ease of use that could be achieved using Crane National Vendors’ machines.

“We believe the labor saving features such as price rolls and easy programming will lower our labor costs. The self diagnostics feature will assist our personnel in quickly resolving service issues. We were also glad to see that all trays are interchangeable between candy and bag items allowing us to easily change the product mix to suit our customer’s requirements, while saving us money in not having to stock additional trays,” said Ings.
