Paying for ingredients just got easier for manufacturers of foods and beverages. D.D. Williamson, world leader in caramel color, will now accept its customers’ payments through Visa and MasterCard. Though frequent among vendors in other industries, D.D. Williamson is among the first ingredient manufacturers to offer this convenient service to its customers. The company announced its new service at the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting this week in New Orleans.

D.D. Williamson’s customers can now choose a quicker, more efficient way to pay. They can reduce the number of checks by consolidating one monthly payment to Visa or MasterCard International. By streamlining the purchase order process, the credit card option eliminates the time and paperwork needed for requisitions and invoice processing. “Food and beverage manufacturers will no longer need to go through the process of manually matching their caramel color purchase orders with invoices to generate a check and mail the payment,” said Sandy Nixon, President of D.D. Williamson & Co., Inc.

“The credit card option can reduce costs for our customers,” said Nixon. In the traditional purchase order process, the cost of issuing, routing, and processing a purchase order can cost a company as much as $150 for a single transaction. Using Visa or MasterCard makes this process a thing of the past. The credit card system captures and provides transaction data that can be easily tracked by customers for reporting and interfacing into their accounting systems.

PNC Merchant Services, an alliance between PNC Bank and First Data Merchant Services, has been selected by D.D.Williamson to process its customers’ Visa and MasterCard payments. “We are delighted to be working with D.D.Williamson to offer credit card payment services to its customers who want the flexibility of card transactions,” says Beth Vucic, marketing manager of PNC Merchant Services. “Offering a credit card payment option is one way companies are making it easier for their customers to do business with them.”

D.D. Williamson is piloting the card program at its operations in the United States and will later expand the service to its other manufacturing subsidiaries located in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
