Dairy Fresh LLC announced Friday (5 October) that it is voluntarily recalling one-half gallon packages of Ingles Best Banana Split ice cream. This product may contain almonds or pieces of almonds. Individuals with allergies to almonds run the risk of a serious or life threatening reaction if they consume this product. Dairy Fresh LLC initiated the recall after almonds were discovered in a one half-gallon package of Ingles Best Banana Split ice cream. No illness or allergic reactions have been reported thus far.
The ice cream was manufactured at the Dairy Fresh plant located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and may have been distributed in Ingles Markets stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.
This product comes in two piece, round rectangular half-gallon containers of Ingles Best Banana Split ice cream (UPC86854-00349), which are marked with a code date of 5 13 02, #2 3783.
Consumers with half-gallon packages of Ingles Best Banana Split ice cream marked with the affected code date are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Dairy Fresh at (800) 446-5577, or Ingles Markets at (828) 669-2941.
Dairy Fresh stated, “As a food company that has been a part of the community for 50 years, our consumers are our first concern. This concern is shared by our counterparts at Ingles Markets and we appreciate their assistance in recovering this product. We also want to emphasize that Ingles Markets is in no way responsible for this matter, and has been extremely cooperative.”
The Company added, “Ingles Markets and Dairy Fresh have been and continue to be cooperating fully with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services with this voluntary recall.”
