Foodservice equipment and supplies distributor Edward Don & Company announced today the launching of don.com, the linchpin of the company’s fulfillment system.
The new don.com e-commerce site, which has been available to select customers since May, is the foundation for a fully integrated system that connects Don’s six coast-to-coast distribution centers to a centralized enterprise system and to customer desktops. The Chicago-based Stir Crazy restaurant chain is already on board with online ordering.
The goal of this strategic systems update, according to executive vice president Steve Don, was to develop a unique set of tools to help foodservice operators save time and money in the purchasing process.
“Everyone in the foodservice industry rushed to get online,” says Don. “We chose to create an e-commerce solution that offers unmatched technology plus physical distribution and dedicated delivery that the average foodservice portal simply can’t provide.”
The software packages are tied into the firm’s enterprise system, which uses bar code and radio frequency technology to ensure fast and accurate warehouse picking. Real-time inventory allocation, Don adds, helps assure customers get what they want when they need it.
