US wholesale baker Flowers Foods posted a loss of US$9.34m for its second quarter ended 12 July, in contrast with a profit of $6.05m in the year-ago period.
A 6% rise in sales was offset by a loss booked on the sale of its frozen foods division Mrs. Smith to Schwan Food for $240m, the company said.
Net income from continuing operations came in at $13.8m, or 30 cents a share, compared with $13.5m, or 30 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales for the quarter rose to $337.2m from $317.9m, excluding the divested division.
