Venerable Food Packaging Name and Internet Takeout and Delivery Service Team Up to Preserve the Quality of Food in Restaurant Takeout and Delivery Through Improved Convenience and Packaging
Food.com, the Internet’s food and dining destination, and Reynolds Foodservice Products, a leader in foodservice packaging, today announced a joint effort to deliver a restaurant quality meal to the home through improved convenience and packaging of restaurant take-out and delivery programs. Food.com and Reynolds Foodservice plan to cross promote their products to the respective restaurateur and client base.
With Food.com’s proposed acquisition of Takeout Taxi, the nation’s largest restaurant delivery service, Food.com will be in a key position with respect to delivery of restaurant takeout to its consumers. Food.com plans to invest in the infrastructure of Takeout Taxi in order to upgrade delivery service operations and provide a more timely and convenient option for its customers. Reynolds Foodservice also is improving restaurant takeout and delivery by working with restaurants around the country to educate them on how quality packaging can help preserve the quality of food as it travels between the restaurant and the consumer’s home.
According to the National Restaurant Association, takeout occasions outnumbered on-premise occasions (51% vs. 49%) in 1998, and 40% of adults feel that purchasing takeout is essential to the way they live. However, consumers are concerned that takeout does not travel well, and feel that somewhere between the home and the restaurant, the meal may get cold, lose flavor and texture. Technomic research also indicates that consumers feel takeout packaging can “make or break” a meal. Both Food.com and Reynolds Foodservice recognize the need to preserve the quality of a restaurant meal as it travels, and they have united to provide a solution.
The new cooperative effort calls for representatives of Reynolds Foodservice to work with Food.com in providing takeout and delivery food packaging solutions to Food.com’s current base of nearly 16,000 restaurants nationwide and prospective clients within the same industries. In addition, Reynolds Foodservice will promote the Food.com service as a takeout and delivery solution to Reynolds Foodservice’s current and prospective clients in the restaurant industry and in the home meal replacement category of the grocery industry.
“Reynolds Foodservice is a well trusted name among the restaurant community and we believe this cooperative effort will help us reach many prospective clients,” said John C. Laing, Chief Operating Officer at Food.com. “We also believe that Reynolds Foodservice’s packaging solutions will help our current and future client base meet the high demand for quality packaging for takeout and delivery food. We’re looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
