Herman Cain, former chief executive officer and president of the National Restaurant Association and chairman of Godfather’s Pizza, has accepted FSbuy.com’s invitation to join its board of directors.
“Herman’s extensive experience and leadership within the foodservice industry speak for themselves,” said Tim Carda, co-founder and acting chief executive officer for Anaheim-based FSbuy.com. “His turn-around experience with the Burger King Corp. and leadership role with the National Restaurant Association provide immediate value and impact to our Internet start-up.”
Cain, a resident of Atlanta, began his career at The Pillsbury Co. where he became vice president of corporate systems and services and soon after was named vice president and general manager for the Philadelphia region while with the Burger King Corp.
Following his work with Burger King, Cain was selected by The Pillsbury Co. to assume the presidency of the Godfather’s Pizza subsidiary and two years later led a group of Godfather’s Pizza senior management in purchasing the pizza chain from The Pillsbury Co.
Cain assumed leadership of the National Restaurant Association as CEO and president where he heightened the recognition of the restaurant industry to unprecedented levels.
Cain, the recipient of the 1996 Horatio Alger Award and the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association’s Operator of the Year/Gold Plate Award in 1991, currently serves as vice chairman of Digital Restaurant Solutions and CEO of T.H.E. Inc., a leadership consulting company.
In addition, Cain serves on several prestigious boards, including Nabisco Inc., UtiliCorp United Inc., Whirlpool Corp., Edmonson Youth Outreach Program and Morehouse College School of Medicine where he received an honorary doctorate degree.
“I am delighted to be associated with FSbuy.com and its rapidly growing company,” said Cain, named one of Ebony magazine’s 100 Most Influential Black Americans in 1997 and 1999, and the author of two books, “Leadership Is Common Sense” (1997) and “Speak As A Leader” (1999).
“The potential of this company is immeasurable in its servicing of foodservice professionals to simplify their procurement of products, equipment and supplies.”
Recently launched in April, FSbuy.com is a “buyer-centric and vendor-neutral” e-commerce solution for the foodservice industry.
The site unites foodservice buyers with distributors, dealers, reps and manufacturers through a single, industry-specific Web site offering the “complete package” from food/paper, beverage products, equipment, smallwares/tabletop, janitorial and office supplies to consultants and service providers.
This is a single-point-of-entry system for pre-qualified buyers and vendors to access industry information and current news events, as well as a one-stop shopping tool for daily procurement, bidding, auctioning/reselling, budgeting and real-time reporting.
