“Peter will lend valuable retailing expertise to our thriving co-op, which boasts over 15,000 members, including numerous retailers who know and respect his experience,” said Karen Buckey, chairman of Frontier’s board of directors. “What’s more, as a natural products retailer and a co-op member for over 23 years, I’m pleased that we will be able to work with Peter to expand our co-op even further,” she concluded.
Roy’s addition boosts the independent co-op’s board to eight members. The board includes Steve Hughes, Frontier’s chief executive officer, as well as other members who lend manufacturing-, distribution- and cooperative-management expertise.
Following a recent Frontier board meeting, Roy provided insight into his acceptance of the Frontier board position. “As a former retailer, I know the quality of Frontier’s products and I now look forward to working with Karen, Steve and the rest of the board to help Frontier grow in new directions,” he said.
Frontier is the only cooperatively-owned national herb company in the United States. Founded in 1976 as a two-person operation in rural Iowa, Frontier posted annual sales of $40 million in fiscal year 2000.
