The USDA’s under secretary for food safety, Dr. Elsa A. Murano, has announced the availability of a Spanish-language publication outlining biosecurity guidelines for food processors.
The publication is the Spanish version of the Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) Security Guidelines for Food Processors, first issued in May.
“These guidelines provide useful information to help companies secure their operations and create another line of defense for the US consumer,” Murano said. “Making the guidelines available in Spanish helps ensure that biosecurity information is extended to more processing establishments inspected by FSIS.”
The voluntary guidelines were published to assist meat, poultry, and egg processing plants of different types and sizes strengthen their food security plans, and were developed in consultation with industry and consumer groups.
To access a copy of the biosecurity guidelines, as well as other food safety publications available in English and Spanish, visit FSIS’ website at www.fsis.usda.gov.
