General Mills and Promotions.com today announced the launch of an Internet promotion for Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn, as part of a national marketing campaign featuring NASCAR legend Richard Petty.

The Internet promotion, created and implemented by Promotions.com, is designed to enhance the online presence of Pop Secret’s “Guess Richard Petty’s Favorite Paint Scheme” Sweepstakes, which runs through September 29 at www.popsecret.com.

To enter the sweepstakes, participants must guess which of three Pop Secret paint schemes Richard Petty likes best for his No. 43 NASCAR Winston Cup car. John Andretti will drive Petty’s favorite car in the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 at North Carolina Speedway on October 22, 2000. The sweepstakes grand prize winner will be awarded a four-night, five-day trip for two to the race and a minimum of $25,000, which could increase to over $86,000 as Andretti drives the No. 43 Pop Secret Pontiac.

The Internet promotion includes an interactive “Pit Stop” area, which is full of games, information about the No. 43 Pop Secret Pontiac and driver biographies. Pop Secret will also give away up to 43 daily instant-win prizes. The “Pit Stop” and the entire Pop Secret Web site were designed and developed by Promotions.com.

In addition to the Internet promotion, the “Guess Richard Petty’s Favorite Paint Scheme” Sweepstakes will be supported nationally with point of purchase displays and coupon inserts in major market newspapers on July 30. It will also be featured on eight million packages of Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn and promoted at State Fairs throughout the country.
