Supermarket company Giant Food, a 188 store-strong subsidiary of the Dutch giant Royal Ahold’s US arm Ahold USA, has announced the appointment of Stephen Neal to the newly created position of senior VP, store operations.

In his capacity, Neal will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for Giant’s store operations.


Neal joined Giant in 1978 after receiving his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from George Mason University. Progressing through Giant’s career development programme, he was promoted to store manager in 1986 and district manager in 1994. In 1996, Neal was named as Giant’s first VP, corporate diversity. While in that role, he developed the department’s initial mission and objectives and also formulated many of the programmes that are today a cornerstone of Giant’s diversity initiatives.


In 1999, he was promoted to VP, store operations, the position he held prior to his recent appointment.
