Global Food Exchange, the leading web-based software provider for the perishables food industry, announced that it is opening an office in Paris to manage the firm’s expansion in Europe.

The Paris office, Global Food Exchange Europe, will coordinate sales, marketing, business development, local customer support, and technology integration with European food retailers, wholesalers, distributors and their suppliers of perishable goods.

Global Food Exchange has operations in four key U.S. cities as well as a Latin American office in Guadalajara, Mexico.  The Company also announced plans to launch a fully functional Spanish-language version of its software in March to improve its service in Mexico and Latin America.

“The European food industry is one of the most active participants in international trade and includes some of the largest and fastest growing retailers in the world,” said Mark Moore, president and co-founder of Global Food Exchange. “We intend to tap this rapidly expanding market and provide our buyers and suppliers an efficient, economical way to bolster their trade in perishable food products.”

Moore added that the move into Europe coincides with Global Food Exchange’s expanded software capability.  “With new localized versions of the Company’s software, we can better respond to the specific needs of customers throughout the European continent,” he said.

Web-based e-commerce is especially valuable in the perishable food industry, where communications technologies such as electronic data interchange (EDI) have not proven to be effective.  Global Food Exchange’s solution enables retailers, wholesalers and distributors to closely monitor orders as they move through the supply chain, and helps to reduce invoice errors and minimize expensive spoilage losses.

The office will be managed by two experienced food industry professionals: Franck Devaux, international specialist and French native, and Andreas Wolf, director-professional services and native of the Netherlands.  Both Devaux and Wolf come from Global Food Exchange’s United States headquarters, and have extensive retail and supply side experience in Europe.  Devaux has been instrumental in growing Global Food Exchange’s international business, and brings multi-category experience from companies such as SN Gourmets, Lion Foods Group, and the Miko-Ortiz Group.  Wolf led Global Food Exchange’s professional services function, overseeing the implementation of the GFE Network within U.S. clients, and was previously with Cavendish Farms, a division of the J.D. Irving Group as well as the Monsanto Company.
